Moving can be a stressful experience, no matter if it is in town or out of town. But moving a long distance can add additional complications and worries into the equation.
To keep the process easier and less stressful, we’ve prepared some great tips for moving a long distance in TX.
1) Pack like a pro:

There are many tricks you can utilize to pack your stuff more efficiently. If you are sending furniture, wrap up your clothes in drawers. Don’t leave any loose space in boxes.
Pack items within each other. You may put your utensiles inside your plastic containers. Place towels and bedsheets in black trash bags, and use them to pad boxes.
It might not seem glamorous, but it is a great way to be efficient, and efficiency is key when preparing for a big move.
2) You may need to downsize:
It is not easy and we may dread doing this, but when relocating we will have to analyze which items are essential and it can be a great opportunity to have a fresh start. Even if the new house is similar in style, you don’t want to bring all your possessions. If it isn’t something you absolutely love, now is the time to sell it or give it away.
Often times people move with all their possessions, only to find months later they are still surrounded by unpacked boxes sitting in the garage. If it’s not something you love or need, you probably aren’t going to miss it and somebody else may give it a better use.
Also, if furniture costs more to ship than it’s worth, you might want to consider leaving it behind.
3) Take precautions with movers:
If possible try to keep valuables such as jewelry or sentimental items with you. If you need to sheep valuables, you may have them insured in case they get lost or damaged.
Make sure to mark well your boxes with name and address as many big moving companies will load different items on the same load.
4) If possible, drive your car:
Shipping your car can be expensive and you don’t have a set date of arrival and it can be frustrating to be left out without transportation in the new destination. If you can take a road trip, just drive your car to the new destination and do some sightseeing along the way. If you are using a shipping company for your car you may load it up with some items.
5) Be prepared to buy some new things:
As with any move, there are always things you will inevitably need when moving into your new home. Think a new drawer organizers, paper towel holders, garage shelving, plants, and other items suited for your new place.
Plan ahead and leave some cash for these purchases. You don’t want to add any additional stress to the move by worrying about buying the little things you will need to make your house a home.
6) Be patient and give it a week or two:
When you find yourself in a new house, it will take a while to make it your own, physically and emotionally. It will take a couple of weeks to really feel comfortable in your new town.
Explore the area and get to know the neighborhood. Be patient and you will feel right at home in no time.
